Greetings to all you Alano Club members and friends in recovery!

“Particularly was it imperative to work with others as he had worked with me. Faith without works was dead, he said. And how appallingly true for the alcoholic! For if an alcoholic failed to perfect and enlarge his spiritual life through work and self-sacrifice for others, he could not survive the certain trials and low spots ahead. If he did not work, he would surely drink again, and if he drank, he would surely die. Then faith would be dead indeed. With us it is just like that.”

-Alcoholics Anonymous pg. 14-15

Service work is gratitude in action and an indispensable part of recovery. Are you looking for a place to do service work? The Alano Club is in need of volunteers at the coffee shop. Please see Maxine or John to volunteer.

Treatment Speaker Workshop will be held Wednesday, November 3rd at 6pm. We need speakers to go and share their experience, strength, and hope at Pathways. The workshop is to teach us the recommended way to speak in treatment centers. The General Service Office has a format for speaking in treatment centers that will be taught at the workshop. We need a ton of support in this area, so please join us.

In remembrance and gratitude to Judy Hills, a collection is being taken for an angel statue, a bench, and a plaque in her honor. If Judy touched your life, you’re welcome to submit a line or a quote that will possibly be put on a memorial plaque. Please submit this to Lindsey, Carmen, Dennis, Shawna, or Char. As noted in the quote above, freely giving the wisdom that was freely given to us is an essential part of recovery. Judy was a shining example of giving back selflessly. We should all strive to follow in these exemplary footsteps. There is no one on earth that can help an alcoholic/addict like another alcoholic/addict. We’re all qualified. Please see Lindsey to contribute to this memorial.

Memberships at the Alano Club are a crucial part of the club’s existence. It is the club’s mission to provide a stable meeting place for groups in the St. Helen’s community, to provide an area that will serve as a focal point and social gathering place for persons in recovery, and to provide services to the groups meeting in the community. Memberships are $10 a month or $100 a year. We all had that much to spend on drugs or alcohol; we can all spend that much to support our local Alano Club. Please go to the coffee shop to get your membership today.

Halloween Party

Saturday, October 30th we are having a Halloween Party, all ages are invited. The dancing will start at 8 pm. The price is $3 for individual, $5 for couples and $1 for kids 12 years old and under. We will be having an Airband/Lipsinking contest and a costume contest for the adults, so dress up, but remember that kids will be there, so keep it decent. There will be a 50/50 raffle and door prizes. Also, Fran will be offering 10 minute massages for $5.

Note from the President

Wow! What a great summer it's been. We have finished up the Energy Upgrade Project, had a killer Founders Day celebration, and added the Fireside Meeting. The Saturday night speaker meeting and music jam have been really popular. Learning how to socialize unlubricated is a big part of recovery, and the Big Book says we insist on having fun.

The Board of the club is working on many objectives. The addition and expansion of the club is still alive. We are attempting to get a grant for$10,000 for engineering and design for working drawings so we can get a budget to know how much to get in the building grant. We will be applying for State Revenue Sharing grant (this is the alcohol tax money) in the next week. We will probably try for new furniture, but the board hasn't voted on this yet. We also need to address the floor in the West Wing, handicap access in bathrooms, and we need a roof.

The club runs on volunteers. There are no paid positions. We need YOUR paid membership to keep the doors open and we need YOUR time. See Maxine or John in the coffee shop if you can help there. We need cooks for lunch and counter persons. This is a great way to learn to be social if you have issues in this area. I need help with the floors in the club. We try to mop and buff the tile floors at least twice a week. Jeremy has been doing a great job but it's time for someone else to step up. The hours are flexible and we'll train you, gals are welcome too. If you appreciate our volunteers please let them know. If you see how something could be done better, step up and do it. Thanks and God bless you all. Steve Rosenlund, board president.
